Two worlds collide in this melodrama set in Victorian Brighton a repressive household, run by a tyrannical chemist, and a sleazy tavern, presided over by a passionate landlady. The chemist's son (Jackson) finds himself, understandably enough, in thrall to the landlady (Withers).
